Default Colorado: Posting Phone Calls With Competitors On YouTube or Websites

I found this video on YouTube.com
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s7D-VtJjdfk ( hope I can post this link, I didn't make it nor am I promoting their product).

Anyway the guy calls a a company, records the call and then posts the audio on YouTube.

I would like to call a few of my competitors and ask them some simple questions about their service and post the audio on my website and discuss why they even say they don't offer what we offer etc..

If I did this could I disclose the company I was calling? Would I have to bleep out the company name when they said it?

Any info would be appreciated. I just want to make sure some company couldn't sue my behind off for this before I go and do something dumb

Thanks.

Many states have wiretapping laws that may prevent or restrict the recording of telephone conversations without the other party's consent to the taping. Violation of these laws can result in serious criminal and civil penalties depending on your state's laws and the state laws where the other party does business. I suggest you speak to an attorney regarding the legal issues involved before you take any action, particularlly if you intend to post the information received on a public forum.

You can find more information about an attorney through the attorney locator service on LawInfo's home page at: http://www.lawinfo.com/index.cfm. Some do offer free consultations.

I would assume that there would be some recourse if you put the conversation on the web let alone record the conversation at all without there knowledge.

Yes, probably there would be some recourse.

I believe that it is okay to do this in Colorado. That doesn't mean the other party won't at least threaten to sue.
