My landlord is telling me that i cannot claim my rent on my taxes because she has a VA mortgage and it will get her in trouble. She tells me this AFTER I move in. When i get the contract, it also says my rent can go up at any time due to changes in taxes, she's telling me as much as $400 a month (she bought another home and is claiming the homestead exemption on her new home). Also, contract says she is responsible for maintining the structure of the home and everything else is my responsibility. I asked is there any way to get out of this contract, she tells me no, she cannot put the house up for sale (she received $7500? For buying a home 2 years ago,) and has to keep it for 3 years otherwise she has to pay it back, and there is no way she is going to find someone to rent the house to cover her house payment. Is this all legal? I need to get out of this lease, but I do not want to put her in a bad spot.Please help.
