Default Child support beyond 18?

My daughter will be inegible for child support once she graduates from High School at 18. My original decree was done in 1989. My present husband and myself are going to pay for her college in full -- all expenses. I'm wanting to ask her father to continue to pay ($250)child support for the months she is enrolled in College. Payments to be to mailed to her for spending money. If he refusses what would be my chance to get a judge to change my order stating graduation from College instead of High School. I think this is an extremely fare offer. College is so expensive now and I think fathers she be partially responsible.
