Question Avoiding Bankruptcy

My husband of 10 years moved into a hotel 5 days ago and is about to move in with a friend. Despite my wanting to work things out, he insists that we are done and he is not willing to work on it.

We are already in a double mortgage for more than the house is currently worth and unable to pay all of our bills every month. We have to pay the minimums and trade off which bills not to pay.

Now he's saying he's going to find a place of his own. If he signs a contract (and on paper he has good credit- don't ask me how THAT works) for an apartment and that means we can't pay more bills/are forced into bankruptcy, what can I do to protect myself and my children?

I can certainly understand this is a frustrating situation for you. I suggest you contact a bankruptcy and a family law attorney immediately to determine your legal options for protecting yourself and dealing with the financial issues. You can find an attorney through the locator service on LawInfo’s home page at: http://www.lawinfo.com/.

You can also browse through information in LawInfo’s Free Legal Resource Center about debt, collections, creditor’s rights, bankruptcy, etc.:
