Exclamation Auto Renewal Provisions? Verbal Agreement Binding?

I am an office manager to a small business in Las Vegas. We had service with Cox Communications, but wanted to switch because it was too high. I called and spoke to THREE different reps that all three told us we out of contract and tried negotiating a lower rate. CenturyLink was cheaper so we ported out number. We got our last bill at a prorated rate.

Thirty days later we got a bill. I called and the manager said we were not out of contract that they auto renewed us back in November. I told I called three times and they said we out of contract. She said they don't have the updated information in the system so that's not her problem. They are charging us close to $600!

I have been fighting this all the way up to the Vice-President of Cox. It was in the contract that was signed, however it was not made aware to the person that signed the contract and it was separate from the signed contract.

Does Nevada have provisions on auto renewals? If we are told we out of contract by a company rep is that binding? Cox says they don't keep their conversations longer than 30 days.

Please help!

Thanks so much!

Have you browsed through the information in LawInfo's Free Legal Resource Center to learn more about your issue yet? See: http://www.lawinfo.com/consumer.html and http://resources.lawinfo.com/en/index.html. You can certainly try to speak to a lawyer to determine what legal options may be available. In the meantime, you may be able to learn more on your own. Search the "Free Legal Resources" tab, or browse the Consumer Resources. Good luck.
