Default Advice for when company wants to fire you for absenteeism due to

medical illness/dr. appt.??? I have a friend who is under intense scrutiny for what the employers consider a large number of days of absenteeism due to illness/dr. appts. 114 total work hours missed. WARNING: Altho WHAT she suffers from is not the issue it is of a "delicate" nature; I just wanted any "gentlemen" to have fair warning if they continue to read on. In a nutshell she was misdiagnosed for years by her original doctor and when she finally had the courage to seek a 3rd opinion the new doctor was able to properly diagnose her condition. This "condition" is a type of skin disease evidently that mimics feminine yeast infections. To be honest if you've ever had just such an infection you already know how horrid it is until you can get medical attention for it. Imagine being misdiagnosed and the condition never goes away and you are constantly suffering!!! My friend is not interested in pursuing legal action against her original doctor(s) for the misdiagnosis. However her employers/HR Dept. are refusing to accept even her new doctor's written information/diagnosis/supporting documents etc. explaining what she suffers from and why it has required medical attention etc. Friend has on occasion had to miss work for appts. regarding her diabetes as well. Employers are having their company lawyer look all this over and are insisting she have an examination with a doctor of THEIR choice. Evidently so they can investigate or what--I really don't know. Is there anything my friend can do to protect herself from being fired by the company? Can they force her to see a doctor of THEIR choosing in this situation? Can they fire her if she refuses? It's not like she doesn't have the doctor's written documentation to back up what's been going on with her medically . . . Thank you for any help. My friend is beside herself with anxiety over this. She suffers also from depression. This constant harrassement from her employers is draining her emotional reserves. . . And I seriously doubt she can afford a lawyer . . .
