At this point there's probably not much TO do. If the hopsital thinks the injuries were the result of a criminal act (a beating), they are mandated reporters, but it can't hurt to find out if a report was made. Unfortunately, if she's unconscious ,she herself isn't able to provide any information about what happened to her, so police will have little to go on (if persons at the nursing home were involved, they can't be counted on to be up front about what happened).

Unfortunately in cases like this, not to be morbid, but often given the nature of the injuries, typically the investigation must rest on the results of an autopsy that would be performed if she passed away, and what to do next would depend on the medical examiner's report. If the report indicates that the cause of death was something like a fall, or a fall combined with seizures (which can produce injuries that look like a beating) then you consult with an attorney regarding a wrongful death or neglect lawsuit and get their take on the matter. If the cause of death indicates that anyone DID something to her that resulted in her death, the medical examiner would turn the case over to police for a criminal investigation. If the hopsital hasn't already, you can contact police and let them be aware that a possible criminal battery has taken place. Then you'll have to play the waiting game. If she improves or recovers, she may be able to provide more info to move the case forward or close it. If she doesn't, then things will hinge on what the medical examiner determines.

Will keep her in my prayers.

I agree with aardvarc. Have you browsed through the information in LawInfo's Free Legal Resource Center to learn more about your issue yet? See: http://www.lawinfo.com/consumer.html. You can certainly try to speak to a lawyer to determine what legal options may be available. In the meantime, you may be able to learn more on your own. Search the "Free Legal Resources" tab, or browse the Consumer Resources. Good luck.
